Design Statement:
A filmmaking project that incorporates a social commentary approach to convey gender awareness to young Chinese filmmakers to reconsider the stereotypical perspective towards women in their future films.
Deliverable 1: 4 mins film
This short film showcases the negative portrayal of women in the postmodern context and transit to a better representation of women in today’s context.
Deliverable 2: Poster
To gather attention of film students, curating a poster to gain focus group participants to attend the film screening that were organised. With the use of the spilled rice inside a chicken bowl to create the concept of the poster to communicate the nostalgic reoccurring moment between the past and present.
Deliverable 3: Brochure
Using brochure as a platform to deliver information about the film screening as it consist of comparative studies between my film and Zhang Yimou’s film to educate audience to understand the objective and purpose behind the film.
Deliverable 4: Script
Besides studying Zhang Yimou’s filming techniques, the script plays an important roles towards the context of the film. The script showcase narrative of the attitude changes of men in the 1980s to the 20th century.
Case Study Report: 1min 40seconds Video
This video showcase the participation of degree level 3 film students from Lasalle College of the Arts, the feedbacks that were obtained after the screening could analyze the results of how young filmmakers were influence to reconsider female roles.
Film Screening: Event
This film screening were projected towards young filmmakers, such as soon to be graduating film students. Therefore, this screening highlights the discussion and promotes gender awareness of the female roles in the film as well as the celebration of archiving women’s film in the 1980s to 1990s.
